97 kg of Heroin Found in Truck from Iran to Armenia Driven by Turkish National
As a result of round-the-clock monitoring operations conducted by the Anti-Smuggling Department of the State Revenue Committee, another major drug smuggling case has been uncovered.
Recently, employees of the Anti-Smuggling Department, with the participation of South Customs personnel and service members of the border guard of the Russian Federation, as well as officers from the National Security Service and the Police of Armenia, conducted customs control on a truck operated by a citizen of Turkey arriving from the Islamic Republic of Iran through the "Agarak" state border crossing into the Republic of Armenia.
During the customs inspection of the mentioned truck, a total of 119 packages containing heroin, weighing a total of 97 kg, were discovered hidden within metallic constructions on the front section of the trailer's roof, wrapped in brown adhesive tape. The heroin uncovered is the second major discovery made by the Anti-Smuggling Department’s employees this year, following the recent detection of approximately 36 kg of heroin.
The market value of the seized heroin is estimated to be between 10 to 11 million USD.
A criminal case has been initiated in the Investigative Department of the State Revenue Committee under the characteristics of crimes stipulated in Article 267.1, Part 4, and Article 266, Part 3, of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, and the citizen of Turkey has been arrested.
In connection with the aforementioned drug smuggling case, urgent operational and investigative measures have been undertaken by the Anti-Smuggling Department, the National Security Service, and the Police of Armenia to identify the individuals involved.
