Grenade Explodes in Armavir Region: Male Body Found in One of the Houses, One Person Hospitalized

An extraordinary incident occurred in the Armavir region yesterday. Around 22:30, the Vagarshapat police department received a report that an explosion had taken place in one of the houses on Aram Khachaturyan Street in the Zvarnots neighborhood.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, police officials, including the head of the Armavir regional police department Karen Hakobyan, deputy head for operational matters Vahan Matevosyan, head of the Vagarshapat police department Rafael Poghosyan, and his deputy for operational matters Arthur Fishyan, arrived promptly at the scene.

Officers discovered a male body lying on the floor of the living room in house number 33. The operational group led by R. Poghosyan and A. Fishyan determined that one person from the house had been urgently transported to the Vagarshapat Medical Center with critical injuries.

Considering the degree of criminal potential, the prosecutor of Ejmiadzin Karen Khachatryan arrived at the scene. Currently, investigators from the Armavir regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, along with the group led by the head of the department Samvel Tonoyan and head of the Vagarshapat investigative division Davit Baroyan, are conducting an examination of the crime scene.

Senior investigator Vladimir Avetisyan from the department for particularly important cases is also carrying out an inspection at the site. Police and investigators have clarified that the deceased was identified as 48-year-old Gevorg Asatryan, a resident of Mayisyan Street in the Zvarnots neighborhood of Ejmiadzin, while the injured party is 33-year-old Ruben Papoyan, a resident of house number 33 on Aram Khachaturyan Street.

Following this incident, a group of investigators has been formed by the head of the Armavir regional investigative department S. Tonoyan, and senior investigator V. Avetisyan has been appointed as the head of the investigative group, which is preparing materials on the case.

According to preliminary information, a grenade exploded in the living room of the house, resulting in the immediate death of G. Asatryan, while R. Papoyan was transported to the hospital.
