"You don't have time, resign your mandate, let those come who have time": Mayor Marutyan to My Step council member
During today's session of the Yerevan City Council, My Step faction member Gayane Yeghiazaryan addressed the issue of illegal constructions in Ajapnyak. "If previously these activities were taking place on non-working days, now they dare to install illegal shops and stalls in green areas," she noted.
According to Yeghiazaryan, being a council member is a discretionary position, and many have their main jobs, leaving them with no time to draft laws that would improve the activities of the city hall. "The city hall has a legal department that was supposed to fill this legal gap with work over the past three years. You claim that we are addressing the government and the National Assembly, yet they keep dragging it out. Nothing has been done in three years; how are we supposed to move forward in this way?" said the council member.
Yeghiazaryan mentioned that she spoke with the head of the administrative district, who stated that he does not want to act outside the law. "The heads of administrative districts are obliged to protect the community's territory," Yeghiazaryan added.
In response to Yeghiazaryan's speech, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan remarked, "Excuse me, if you don’t have time, resign your mandate, let those come who have time to deal with it, because one of the main duties of a council member is to work on legislative changes decisions."
