Law Enforcement Charges Head of Electoral Headquarters and Citizen
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has reported that during an investigation conducted by the Abovyan investigative division of the Kotayk regional investigative department, several circumstances surrounding the breach of voting confidentiality have been clarified.
According to the press release from the Information and Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, “As previously reported, on June 20, 2021, at polling station number 29/20, a citizen attempted to remove a ballot from the polling station after casting their vote, which was prevented by the head of the commission. The same day, the detained citizen stated that around 11:00 AM, after voting at the specified polling station, they took the ballot with them at the urging of the head of a party’s headquarters participating in the snap parliamentary elections to pass it on to them.”
Based on the sufficient evidence gathered, the citizen has been charged under Part 1 of Article 34-154 of the RA Criminal Code, while the head of the headquarters has been charged under Part 1 of Article 154 of the RA Criminal Code. Motions have been submitted to the Kotayk Regional Court for the application of arrest as a measure of restraint. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
