Nearly 140 Evacuated from Kuzbass Mine Due to Methane Emissions, Casualties Reported
Nearly 140 people have been evacuated from the Kuzbass mine due to methane emissions, Kp.ru reports. According to the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry in the Kemerovo region, two individuals have been injured as a result of the incident. It has been reported that one person died following the methane emissions, which were followed by a rock collapse at the Anzherskaya-Yuzhnaya mine.
"Two miners have been injured, and one has died due to methane emissions and the consequent rock collapse in the Kuzbass mine. Evacuations of mine workers are currently underway. In total, 139 people are being evacuated independently. Military rescue teams are currently working at the scene," the ministry stated.
The Anzherskaya-Yuzhnaya mine has been bankrupt since 2016; however, coal production continues at the site.
