How Will You Welcome Pashinyan in Meghri? The Mayor Elaborates
ArmDaily.am spoke with the Mayor of Meghri and candidate for the National Assembly from the 'Armenia' alliance, Mkhitar Zakaryan. Below are some excerpts from the interview.
“- The acting Prime Minister is heading to Syunik today. How will you welcome him?
- We will disappoint him; this time he is coming prepared, definitely with the aim of provoking provocations, but this time we have decided to ignore that. I can only speak about Meghri and Agarak.
- You mentioned that provocations are expected. Do you have any information regarding that?
- Knowing him, he is coming with vehicles, and then he is bringing 1400 policemen to Syunik. There are even indications that the police will remain here until the elections, and will also be here on election day. He probably wants to increase his voter count this way. If they come here, the police must come with that list. If a policeman is absent, he will be on duty, for instance, if a Yerevan policeman is supposed to be in Syunik, they must choose in Syunik. If he is bringing 1400 policemen with him to leave them here for the elections, it mechanically turns into the fact that those 1400 policemen will be voting in Syunik.
- So, they will try to secure votes for themselves from Syunik this way.
- Yes, it enhances their positions, but it’s not like we are only thinking about Syunik. What difference does it make if there are fewer votes in Yerevan?”
