Information about awarding hundreds of people with weapons is false: Only one officer received a weapon in 1.5 months

The Police have issued a statement regarding information circulated on social networks and news websites, claiming that the Chief of Police has "awarded hundreds of people with weapons in the last 1-1.5 months." The Public Relations and Information Department of the Police stated that according to the Law on Weapons, the Chief of Police of the Republic of Armenia has the right to award only police officers with weapons, and according to the Law on Police Service, awarding a police officer with a weapon is a form of incentive.

"This means that only police officers can be awarded with weapons by the Chief of Police of Armenia for their long-term exemplary and impeccable service, as well as for outstanding performance of their official duties or special assignments," the statement reads. According to the source, in the last 1-1.5 months, only one police officer has been awarded by the Chief of Police of Armenia.
