Biden Prepared for Meeting with Putin for 50 Years
U.S. President Joe Biden knows exactly what to expect from his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during their upcoming meeting; he has been preparing for this moment for 50 years. This was announced by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
Biden traveled to Brussels after the G7 summit in Cornwall, UK, where a NATO summit will take place on June 14. Biden's meeting with Putin is scheduled to occur in Geneva on June 16.
“Biden knows what to expect. He believes that this meeting is not about trust and friendship, but about understanding where we can find points of contact. Being sincere and clear about the areas where we have concerns,” Psaki stated during a press briefing on the plane from the UK to Brussels.
The White House press service spread her comments. U.S. leaders have repeatedly emphasized that the predictability of relations with Russia is the administration's desired goal at this time, rather than the current reality.
Psaki explained that Biden’s awareness of what to expect from the Russian leader is based on the fact that the U.S. President has worked with Putin before and has years of experience. Psaki was responding to a request to comment on First Lady Jill Biden's words that her husband is “very well prepared” for the meeting with Putin. “He has been preparing for this moment for 50 years,” the White House press secretary said, as reported by RIA Novosti.
