State Assets Depletion in the 2000s: Levon Galstyan

Member of the Armenian Environmental Front, geographer Levon Galstyan wrote on his Facebook page: "The Agarak copper-molybdenum combine was sold in 2004 for 600 thousand US dollars. That amount could only be obtained from the sale of just 15 tons of molybdenum or 200 tons of copper at that time.

Can you imagine what kind of state crime we are talking about? To better understand and compare, here are a few numbers: according to official publications, in 2004, Armenia produced:

  • 17,703 tons of copper (about 53 million dollars)
  • 9,470 tons of black copper (about 29 million dollars)
  • 5,784 tons of molybdenum 51% concentrate (about 88 million dollars)
  • 870 tons of molybdenum trioxide (about 13 million dollars)

I believe everything has become clearer now, and to those who speak grandly about the so-called explosive economic development of the 2000s and represent their large, state-oriented managers, you know what examples to bring and what to say in response. They say, 'Choose us and we will develop Armenia,' really?
