Why Is the Enemy Provoking Along the Gegharkunik Direction or the Strategic Importance of Karvachar

Why is the enemy provoking along the Gegharkunik direction, or the strategic importance of Karvachar? Military expert Karen Hovhannisyan has provided insights on this matter.

In this region, the enemy positions are significantly disadvantageous (according to GPS border mapping). What does disadvantageous mean? The enemy lacks the necessary topographical conditions for expansion. Heavy military equipment and artillery cannot be deployed due to the unfavorable terrain.

However, a mere advance of 3-5 km addresses a crucial strategic issue for the enemy: preparing to withstand potential future retaliation.

For the enemy, Karvachar is more vital than all the other regions it has occupied. If it loses (and it will lose) Karvachar, the issue of Artsakh will be closed forever. While in other regions, the enemy has ample space to bring in military equipment, in Karvachar it has solely the Omari Pass, which will be closed in September. Therefore, Karvachar holds significant strategic importance for the enemy; the key to resolving the Artsakh issue lies in Karvachar.
