21-Year-Old Man Attacks and Kills 59-Year-Old Resident in Ararat Region in Front of Daughter-in-Law
On June 12, a particularly brutal murder occurred in the Ararat region, according to shamshyan.com. At around 15:15, the police department in Artashat received a call from the "Artashat" medical center, reporting that a medical team had been dispatched to a house on Ghukasyan Street in Artashat, where a woman had been transported to the hospital with multiple knife wounds on various parts of her body. She later died without regaining consciousness.
As reported by photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan from the crime scene, officials including the head of the Ararat regional police Grisha Amirkhanyan, the head of the Artashat police David Petrosyan, the head of the Ararat regional investigation department of Armenia's Investigative Committee Ambakum Grigoryan, and the head of the investigative division in Artashat Karen Tadevosyan arrived at the scene.
Police and investigators determined that the deceased was 59-year-old Nune N., a resident of Gukhasyan Street in Artashat. She had been transported from her house.
While the forensic medical examiner examined the body, police and investigators, on the lookout for the suspect, discovered 21-year-old Karen M. about 1.5 to 2 kilometers away from the crime scene, in a field area.
It was revealed that the murder took place in the kitchen area of Nune N.’s home, where blood-like traces were also found.
Senior investigator Norik Ayvazyan decided to initiate a criminal case based on the characteristics of Article 104, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. According to G. Shamshyan, the murder weapon, a knife, was also found.
By the order of N. Ayvazyan, Karen M. was arrested as a suspect. The investigator ordered several scientific examinations, including a post-mortem examination.
Several citizens gathered at the scene, who were relatives and neighbors of the victim, refrained from speaking in front of the camera, but shared their account: "Everything happened in an instant. The daughter-in-law was holding a newborn baby when the assailant entered the house with two knives and began stabbing the victim. The daughter-in-law tried to protect herself with a chair, but he shoved her away and continued to deliver erratic knife blows. The ambulance arrived quickly and transported the victim, but she was already dead by then.
The scoundrel left his slippers at the crime scene and attempted to flee. Before we learned the unfortunate news from the hospital that Nune had died, we found out that our police in Artashat had caught him near the border in a Ford car. The guy didn’t manage to escape after all.”
In the Ford vehicle discovered by the police, blood-like traces and two identical knives with blood-like traces were found. The vehicle was taken to the special area of the Artashat police department.
