PHOTOGRAPH: Where Putin and Biden Will Meet

The summit between the leaders of the great powers, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, will take place at the 18th-century estate, La Grange. This estate is a cultural monument of Switzerland and a beloved tourist destination for residents of Geneva.

With only a few days left until the meeting, many are interested in the preparatory work, the location of the meeting, and all the details. This estate was constructed in the 1660s. In 1706, it was acquired by banker Marc Lullin, whose sons built a residential section and a French-style garden between 1768 and 1773.

Later on, a library was also established in the estate's building. By the 19th century, the villa was already hosting official receptions. Thus, in 1864, the last reception was held in the main building of the estate on the occasion of the signing of the first Geneva Convention, which governs the treatment and assistance of wounded and captured soldiers in wartime.

In 1985, a high-level meeting took place in Geneva between then-President Ronald Reagan of the United States and Mikhail Gorbachev, leader of the Soviet Union, although a different villa, Maison de la Paix, was chosen for that meeting.

Delegations from both countries, as well as journalists, will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with the beauties of the Geneva region.
