Unique Surgery Performed at Mother of God Medical Center: Child Born with Large Neck Tumor

Another unique surgery has been performed at the Mother of God Medical Center, saving the life of little Nane. The girl from Gyumri miraculously survived despite a teratoma located on her neck discovered during her prenatal life.

Nane's mother recounts that she was 29 weeks pregnant when doctors informed her during a routine check that the fetus had issues and needed to be removed. However, the parents were unwilling to take that step. This information has been reported by the Mother of God Medical Center.

With the guidance of the specialists at the medical center, the fetus was allowed to remain, and the woman eventually gave birth. Deputy Director David Dallakyan explains that by the time the neck mass was diagnosed, removing the fetus was no longer an option due to the size of the tumor. The specialists first discussed the situation with the parents, outlining what to expect and warning them that the situation would not be easy.

“Immediately after birth, a tube was inserted into the child's trachea, as the mass had constricted her throat and airway. This was a complex procedure, and the child's life was at risk at every moment; she could have suffocated. After a long and complicated surgery, the mass was completely removed. The mass had stretched from the anterior wall of the trachea to the esophagus,” said Dallakyan.

Nane is currently being fed through a gastronomy tube and breathes through a tracheostomy tube. The recovery process may take a long time.

After spending seven months at the Mother of God Medical Center, Nane has been discharged but remains under medical supervision. Dallakyan assures that the child is showing positive dynamics and has already begun to recognize her relatives.
