Alaverdi Mayor Responsible for Fatal Pedestrian Accident

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, around 22:10, at the 1st kilometer of the Alaverdi-Haghpat highway, a resident of Alaverdi city, 49-year-old Sasun Khechumyan, struck pedestrian 51-year-old Andrey Avetyan with his Opel Frontera vehicle. Avetyan succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

Operational units from the 2nd division of the 5th battalion of the Road Police, led by Battalion Commander Ludvig Ghandeeliyan and Squad Commander Nazaryan, quickly arrived at the scene. The Incident was reported to the 1-77 operational management center by duty officer Yervand Aleksanyan, who notified the Lori regional investigation department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, from which an investigative team arrived under the leadership of the head of the regional investigative department, Vahram Hovhannisyan.

A criminal case has been initiated by the Lori regional investigative department under Part 2 of Article 242 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

According to G. Shamshyan, the driver S. Khechumyan is the mayor of Alaverdi city.
