Ministry of Education and Science on the Sale of YSU's Black Building
Hours ago, information appeared on the internet regarding the potential sale of a portion of Yerevan State University (YSU). In a letter from the State Property Management Committee, it was specifically stated that the property located at Abovyan 52 (YSU's black building) is state-owned and has been granted for gratuitous use to the Yerevan State University Foundation. However, a specific proposal to acquire the property is currently under discussion in accordance with an investment program.
This was reported by the president of the 'Human Rights Defender' NGO, Karen Hekimyan, on his Facebook page. He wrote, 'A few days ago, I received information that the current authorities are preparing to sell a portion of YSU. According to the same sources, the buyer plans to build a hotel on the sold area. Well, if they are discussing this, then they will definitely sell it. They can't not sell it. This is how this government operates. If they managed to digest the loss of 187 villages and 6 towns, then what is the sale of a part of YSU that they can't cope with?'
168.am inquired with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports to find out whether they are aware of these plans and what their stance is. The spokesman for the ministry, Gegham Melikbekyan, replied, 'The black building of YSU is not for sale and is not being privatized. We request to verify the authenticity of the news before publishing it.' It should be noted that, according to our information, the discussion pertains to another property.
