Lavrov on Expectations from Biden-Putin Meeting
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that there are not high expectations for the upcoming meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden in Geneva. According to Lavrov, it is already positive that the leaders of the two superpowers are meeting.
“We do not have exaggerated expectations or illusions of progress, but there is a need to exchange views at the highest level, to understand what the threats are for both nuclear superpowers—the United States and Russia. The very fact of dialogue between the two leaders is already positive, and we fully agree with our American colleagues on this issue,” said Lavrov.
U.S. President Joe Biden is set to travel to Europe today, where a NATO summit is planned. His meeting with his Russian counterpart, Putin, will take place on June 16 in Geneva.
