Video: "Everything is fine, I urge to give it limited significance". Macron comments on slap incident
French President Emmanuel Macron has urged not to overemphasize the significance of the "slap incident" and stressed that he will continue to meet with the French people.
According to local publication Dauphiné, the head of state mentioned that he has not had any concerns following the incident. "I have continued to greet those who were with that man and have taken pictures with them. I have continued and will continue. Nothing will stop me," Macron said.
The president added that "everything is fine now" and urged to give the incident "limited significance." He reminded that in France, there is freedom of speech and diversity of opinions, and the people are committed to republican values.
"The overwhelming majority of French people are interested in substantial issues... let’s not allow isolated facts, aggressive faces that are always present at protests, to dominate public discussions. They do not deserve it. This should not overshadow many other important topics that affect the lives of many," concluded the French leader.
As a result of the incident, two individuals were detained. A video circulating online shows the French leader approaching a waiting crowd, grabbing the hand of one man, who then slaps the president with his other hand. Security personnel subsequently intervened, escorting the president away and apprehending the man.
