The director and artistic leader of the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, Konstantin Orbelian, has been appointed as the musical director and conductor of the New York City Opera. According to Armenpress, this was announced on the official website of the New York Opera.

The first opera featuring Maestro Orbelian will be the revived "Rigoletto," which will be showcased on August 29.

"We are very happy to welcome world-renowned maestro Konstantin Orbelian to the New York City Opera family. He brings with him decades of conducting experience and will offer our audiences many high-quality performances in the future," said opera director Michael Capasso, expressing confidence that the Armenian maestro will play a significant role in elevating the New York Opera to new heights in American and international operatic art.

Orbelian emphasized his enthusiasm for the appointment, stating, "This is a great opportunity to help this historically and culturally significant musical institution return to life after the challenges posed by the coronavirus. We will provide opera lovers with the chance to hear the best singers from the US and all over the world. While remaining faithful to the traditions of the New York City Opera, we will also offer a platform for contemporary composers to present their works."
