Biden Invites Zelensky to Washington

U.S. President Joe Biden had a phone conversation on Monday with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, and invited him to Washington. This was announced by Jake Sullivan, the U.S. National Security Advisor, in a briefing with reporters.

Sullivan stated that Biden assured Zelensky that he would defend Ukraine's interests at the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin scheduled for June 16 in Geneva. “This was a phone call they planned to have ahead of President Biden’s trip to Europe and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. They had a chance to discuss all issues regarding U.S.-Ukrainian relations at length. President Biden was able to tell President Zelensky that he will steadfastly defend Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its future aspirations. He also conveyed to President Zelensky that he looks forward to welcoming him to the White House in Washington this summer after returning from Europe,” revealed Sullivan.
