Video: Burned Bones from Drone Strikes Cannot Yield DNA, Forensic Expert says

If the DNA can't be isolated from the tissue on the first attempt, we try to take double samples. This statement was made today during a press conference by forensic expert Marina Baghdasaryan.

“All procedures are carried out according to international standards, and we receive consultations from experts in neighboring Georgia, as well as specialized experts from the 'Red Cross'. It is absurd that DNA can be isolated from bones that are 100 years old or even from a mammoth's bones, but there are cases where DNA cannot be isolated from severely damaged bones. It all depends on the provenance of the bones, as there are layers where DNA is negligible and cannot be isolated,” she said.

According to Baghdasaryan, there are burned bones from drone strikes from which DNA cannot be isolated. Experts indicated that they are confident that even if sent abroad, it will not be possible to isolate DNA.

“We are convinced that even if we send them to our colleagues abroad, who specialize in working with bones, we do not have a guarantee that DNA can be isolated from all bones. Perhaps only 20-30 percent will have DNA that can be extracted. There will be bones from which DNA cannot be isolated,” she stated.
