The Bodies of Soldiers Delivered to Us Were Completely Covered with Maggots, Some Were Devoured by Wolves, Forensic Expert
We have not dealt with fresh, new corpses, stated Armen Gevorgyan, head of the forensic medical examination department in the Ararat region, during a meeting with reporters, as reported by aysor.am.
“We have all dealt with decomposed bodies left on the battlefield, subjected to degradation by animals, both buried and exhumed bodies,” he said.
According to Gevorgyan, only the first one or two days of the war did they receive fresh corpses. “All the bodies delivered to us have undergone extreme autolytic decomposition, transformation, and are devoid of soft tissues and internal organs, completely covered with maggots,” he said.
The forensic expert noted that most of the soldiers' bodies were unrecognizable. “We did not receive intact bodies; we have only portions of bodies that are completely decomposed, with flies, insects, and large mammals—devoured by wolves. We only have their fragments; the bones are entirely skeletal and cannot be processed in any way chemically,” said Armen Gevorgyan.
