The Arrogant Outshines Shmays: The Public Awaits Nazaryan's Apology
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" writes: "The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and former member of the Prosperous Armenia Party, Lena Nazaryan, behaved yesterday in parliament similarly to the aggressive MPs she had previously criticized. Even Shmays, when shouting insults at opponents of the government in the hall, later offered apologies. However, Lena Nazaryan attempted to emulate Shmays but exceeded him with her cynical conduct.
She insulted independent MP Taguhi Tovmasyan while the latter was criticizing the phenomenon of dumping the remains of heroic soldiers in bags on the ground. Instead of apologizing as a representative of the government for the negligence that resulted in the heroes’ remains becoming a subject of flies, she insulted the MP for addressing this issue.
This was, of course, not just an insult directed at MP Tovmasyan, but an affront to the entire Armenian people, whose dignity lies in the remains that are dumped in bags on the ground in a morgue.
Yesterday, public and political circles were responding to Nazaryan's behavior with insults well into the late hours, expecting her to uphold even basic norms of decency. The ruling party remained silent; no one has justified Lena Nazaryan's arrogant behavior, nor has anyone apologized to the parents of the fallen. It is left for her to apologize to the MP and to the citizens of Armenia for lowering the position of the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly to a level beneath the threshold of dignity."
