Shirak Airport Operations to Temporarily Cease
The Shirak Airport in Gyumri will undergo planned renovation works from July 15 to September 15 of this year, specifically focusing on the complete renovation of the runway. It is worth noting that the airport's runway was last completely renovated in 2007.
During the construction works, the airport operations will temporarily cease, and the relevant aviation authorities have been informed in advance in accordance with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
In response to media reports that construction works are being carried out at Gyumri's Shirak Airport to accommodate military aircraft, we would like to clarify that the airport’s aerodrome has been and continues to be classified as a joint-use aerodrome for the civil aviation of the Republic of Armenia and the military aviation of the Republic of Armenia's Ministry of Defense.
It should be recalled that Gyumri's Shirak Airport has been operational since 1961 and is the second airport in the Republic of Armenia.
