Import of Turkish Goods for Personal Use from Georgia to Armenia Also Banned, Says Head of Customs

The restriction on the import of goods of Turkish origin for final consumption also extends to personal use goods that could potentially be imported from Georgia. This was stated by the head of the Customs Committee, Edvard Hovhannisyan, during a press briefing with journalists in the National Assembly, as reported by Armenpress.

Hovhannisyan reminded that the import of goods of Turkish origin has been restricted. "As of June 1, the border with Georgia is open, and the movement of individuals is allowed during certain hours. However, this restriction also applies to goods that may be imported by individuals for personal use," he stated.

He urged citizens not to attempt to import goods of Turkish origin into Armenia through the border. Customs control has its rules, and Hovhannisyan assured that inspections will be conducted in accordance with those rules to prevent such cases. "I am confident that our citizens are well aware of the fact that all items and luggage are subject to inspection when crossing the customs border," he noted.

The Government of the Republic of Armenia imposed a temporary ban on the import of final consumption goods of Turkish origin by its decision No. 1708-N dated October 20, 2020. This ban has been in effect since December 31, 2020. Armenia plans to extend the duration of the ban.
