Armenian Prisoners of War in Azerbaijan Must Be Released Promptly, Dutch Foreign Minister
In a letter addressed to the Parliament of the Netherlands, the acting Foreign Minister Sigrid Kaag discussed the recent discussions at the EU Foreign Ministers Council regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. She emphasized the urgency of the prompt release of Armenian prisoners of war still held in Azerbaijan, as well as the need for a swift UNESCO mission to evaluate the cultural heritage in the region.
According to Armenpress, the Netherlands emphasizes the importance of the immediate withdrawal of troops from the border between the two countries and the return to the negotiating table.
“On May 28, the EU issued a new joint statement at the initiative of the Netherlands, expressing deep concern over border developments and highlighting the importance of de-escalating tensions. The statement calls for the immediate withdrawal of troops from the border and underscores the necessity of clarifying border demarcation issues exclusively through negotiations. It also includes a call for the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war by Azerbaijan,” the Foreign Minister stressed.
