Turkish AI Combat Drone Selects Target and Attacks Autonomously

A combat drone has attacked individuals while operating in a fully autonomous mode. This information is reported by New Scientist magazine.

The authors of the piece refer to a report by UN Security Council experts regarding Libya. According to these experts, in March 2020, the Turkish-made "Kargu-2" combat drone autonomously tracked a target—a person—and decided to engage. This incident occurred during one of the clashes between the Libyan government forces and troops commanded by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

It is emphasized in the article that the drone did not receive any commands from an operator at the time of the attack. It remains unreported whether the individual targeted by the drone survived the assault or not.
