Ombudsman Addresses Report by H1

The Human Rights Defender strongly condemns the emphasis in the report aired yesterday on the Public Television Company's "News" program, which relates to the so-called "Azerbaijani enclaves" in the Tavush and Ararat regions.

The report presents Tigranashen merely as Azerbaijani territory and neglects the rights and security of Armenia's population, particularly that of the border residents. The issues are discussed solely in the context of their existence on maps.

Moreover, historical facts from the Soviet era, when decisions were made at the expense of the rights of residents in Armenia's border villages, and their strategic significance for the protection of citizens’ rights are also disregarded. The formulations presented in that material directly contradict the rights of border residents in this already complicated situation and contribute not only to their plight but also to the destabilization of Armenia's border security, as they include blatantly unprofessional, mechanical approaches and obvious misstatements.

From this perspective, the political-mechanical formulation of "Azerbaijani enclave" is also unacceptable from a human rights standpoint.
