Understanding the Current Azerbaijani Forces Within Armenia's Borders: Abrahamyan

“I cannot understand what they are trying to convince the public of when officials from the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, not to mention people holding various political positions, claim that the number of Azerbaijani units that have invaded the Republic of Armenia does not exceed 1,000. When civilian figures talk about this, I think they are people unaware of the topic, repeating something they have been told from above. But when military officials say this—trying to demonstrate that everything is under control and that there are not many Azerbaijanis in our territory—that raises concerns,” stated Tigran Abrahamyan, the head of the Analytical Center “Henaket,” on his Facebook page.

He raised questions about the difference in the number of forces that have advanced several hundred meters to several kilometers in different sections of the border, whether it is 800 or 1,000. “Have you taken into account in your analyses that in the territories currently controlled by Azerbaijan, such as Karvachar and Kashatagh, artillery, missile systems, UAVs, and special operations units have been deployed?”

According to him, their deployment began just a few hours after the Azerbaijani invasion. “It is clear that the Azerbaijani forces currently located inside the borders of Armenia have reserve forces behind them, including missile-artillery units, UAVs, special forces, and so on. In the context of such dense militarization of the front line, how important is it to know how deep Azerbaijani forces are?” he asked. “If Azerbaijan has concentrated troops in the northern part of Karvachar or Kashatagh currently under its control, the fact of having 600, 800, or 1,000 servicemen in the territory of the Republic of Armenia does not make a serious difference in the situation.

They are trying to entangle the public in secondary and tertiary issues while shifting the responsibility and blame for their failure to perform their basic duties, which has led to growing security threats, and further complicating the situation onto the international community, primarily Russia and the CSTO.” Abrahamyan also noted that the authorities are on a path to leading the country to a new tragedy, and the question of responsibility and guilt is being placed from the very beginning on all subjects involved, whether allies or neighbors, with the least involvement being on Turkey and Azerbaijan.
