Let’s Take to the Streets So the Enemy Doesn’t Enter Through Sisian and Cut Off the Corridor: Marukyan's Response to Zohrabyan
“Let’s take to the streets so that the enemy sees that there are political upheavals in the country, and they might enter through Sisian and cut off the corridor; what will we do then?” This was the response of Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the ‘Enlightened Armenia’ faction, to the public proposal of Naira Zohrabyan, a member of the ‘Prosperous Armenia’ faction, who suggested taking to the streets to remove the government.
According to Marukyan, they never bring up domestic political agendas in such situations, and all electoral processes are currently suspended. “We need to raise vigilance and unite against the external enemy,” he said.
The MP expressed hope that an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council would be convened soon, where they would be invited for a closed discussion to understand the situation.
It should be noted that Zohrabyan stated during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly today, “I want to appeal to the opposition political forces—why are you silent? Each of you is busy printing some booklet and poster. Do you understand that tomorrow it might be too late, and your campaign, booklet, and poster might not be needed by anyone? The opposition should be on the streets now, the opposition should gather the people for an extraordinary meeting and present the situation while demanding Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation.”
