Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Issues Statement

The Azerbaijan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Baku supports the resolution of the situation at the border with Armenia through negotiations, as well as supports international calls for delimitation and demarcation of borders, reports "RIA Novosti."

"Azerbaijan supports the resolution of tensions at the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border through negotiations and supports the international community's calls for delimitation and demarcation of borders between the two countries. Attempts to violate Azerbaijan's borders are unacceptable. Armenia must refrain from actions that lead to increased tensions at the border and respect the borders of its neighboring state," the Azerbaijan MFA's statement said.

On May 12, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia reported that Azerbaijani armed forces attempted to carry out certain activities to clarify the borders in one of the border areas of Syunik province. At the same time, the ministry did not specify what exact activities were undertaken by the Azerbaijani military.

The incident at the border was discussed between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan. During a phone conversation, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan informed Russian President Vladimir Putin about his instructions to seek consultations from the CSTO regarding the situation in Syunik province.

It should be noted that earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia reported that on the early morning of May 27, six servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces were surrounded and captured by Azerbaijani military personnel while carrying out engineering work in the territory protected by the N military unit in the Gegharkunik region of the Republic of Armenia. According to the Ministry of Defense's press service, necessary measures are being taken to secure the return of the captured servicemen.
