Armenia Appeals to ECtHR for Ensuring Fundamental Rights of Captured Armenian Soldiers
The Republic of Armenia has appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) demanding the safeguarding of the fundamental rights of six Armenian soldiers who were captured.
“On the morning of May 27, during engineering works in the border area of Gegharkunik province, the office of Armenia's representative to the ECtHR submitted a request for urgent interim measures against Azerbaijan under Rule 39 of the Court's Rules to protect the rights of the captured Armenian soldiers. The goal of the request is to guarantee the rights of the captured individuals to life and freedom from torture, as guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights,” the statement from the office of Armenia's representative to the ECtHR reads.
