Sasun Mikayelyan Upset Over Son's Exclusion from Electoral List by Pashinyan

The newspaper Hraparak reports: "The President of the Yerkrapah Volunteers Union and My Step alliance MP, Sasun Mikayelyan, announced on Friday that he finds it unacceptable to come to terms with the status of being a defeated party in this incomprehensible war. Therefore, he has decided not to run as a candidate in the snap elections scheduled for June 20." Despite Mikayelyan's close associates trying to assure that the 'commander' did not make this decision lightly—his friends had long argued that a commander from a victorious war should exit from politics—sources within the government indicate that the reason for Mikayelyan's withdrawal is rather mundane: he wanted to include his eldest son, Mekhak, in the electoral list but was rejected by Pashinyan, noting that the disagreement lied within the requirements of the local situation. Mikayelyan thus took offense and announced that he would not run.

Within government circles, it is rumored that it might be possible to place his son on the list of Aram Sargsyan's Republic party, allowing the members of the YEKM to escape an awkward position without having to vote for someone they deem responsible for the loss of Artsakh, and they would work collectively for Aram, brother of Vazgen. Although his chances are not highly rated."
