Azerbaijan's Ombudsman Visits Armenian Prisoners

Azerbaijan's Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva, has visited Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan, whom Baku accuses of carrying out terrorist activities in the territories of Nagorno-Karabakh that have come under Azerbaijani control, Azerbaijani media reports.

According to a statement from Azerbaijan’s Ombudsman, the ombudsman individually listened to their appeals, explained their rights, and inquired whether their rights were being upheld. The detained individuals expressed satisfaction regarding the conditions of their detention, food, medical services, and treatment.

The results noted by the Azerbaijani Ombudsman during the visit have been sent to international human rights organizations.

As of May 4, the number of prisoners who have returned from Azerbaijan to Armenia is 72. According to Armenian sources, there are still 200 Armenian military captives and civilians in Azerbaijan. Official Baku presents a different figure, claiming that they are not military captives but rather 'saboteurs.' Criminal cases have been opened against them.

It should also be noted that the Azerbaijani side has repeatedly stated through official channels that they have released all Armenian military captives.
