Circumstances of Water Poisoning Cases in Syunik Become Clearer: Criminal Case Initiated

From May 9 to 11, 2021, residents of the Syunik region sought medical assistance at the Sisian Medical Center with symptoms of infectious diseases, as reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia. As a result of undertaken measures, it was revealed that epidemiological studies conducted by experts in disease control and prevention included backyard inspections on May 11. Consequently, symptoms characteristic of an intestinal infectious disease were identified, leading to a diagnosis of moderate and mild severity for the affected individuals.

A criminal case was initiated on May 17, 2021, at the Sisian division of the Armenian police under Article 277, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules). The case was forwarded on May 18 to the Sisian investigative department of the Syunik regional investigative directorate for further proceedings. Medical examinations have been appointed for the criminal case, water samples have been taken for expert analysis, and other investigative and procedural actions are being carried out to clarify all circumstances of the incident.
