The Prime Minister Can Open a Corridor from His Bedroom: Mayor of Meghri on the Notorious Corridor

“What corridor are we talking about? Do they want our ears to get used to the word corridor?” said Mikayel Zakaryan, the mayor of Meghri, in an interview with Aravot.am.

According to him, no Azerbaijanis have appeared in the Meghri region recently, and no one has come to discuss the Meghri corridor, nor has anyone spoken about it on the ground.

“There can be no corridor through Meghri. The Prime Minister can open a corridor from his bedroom. He cannot do anything on our land,” emphasized Mikayel Zakaryan.

He also refuted reports suggesting that the residents of Meghri are “in a panic” and “leaving the region.” “Perhaps a couple of people like him are creating this impression, but I am not aware of any facts that even a single family from Meghri has left in recent days,” stated the mayor of Meghri.

However, there is a general sense of unease. “Everyone, starting from me, is anxious; perhaps it’s the uncertainty of this situation that causes concern, as the state cannot clearly say or do anything,” concluded Mikayel Zakaryan during our phone conversation.
