Jewish Youth Attack Member of Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem
A member of the Armenian Patriarchate's St. James Brotherhood, Father Arbak Sarukhanyan, was attacked by Jewish youths in Jerusalem. The incident occurred on the way to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Father Arbak sustained bodily injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital. This was reported in an interview with Ter Koryun Vardapet Baghdasaryan, the chief secretary of the Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem.
“Members of the Patriarchate frequently face such attacks from Jewish extremists. There were seven assailants, three of whom have already been arrested. Father Arbak has been discharged from the hospital after receiving appropriate treatment,” said Father Koryun.
The Patriarchate has officially lodged a complaint with the police, demanding a thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are punished according to the law in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“There have been very few cases of such attacks that result in bodily harm. This is the second such incident,” emphasized Father Koryun. He noted that in previous cases, judicial proceedings had been initiated, and this year for the first time, the court imposed a fine on one of the assailants, providing financial compensation to the victim. In this case as well, they are confident that an appropriate decision will be made through the court.
