Gagik Beglaryan Voluntarily Presented Himself, Lawyer Says

Former Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan did not resist detention but voluntarily presented himself to the authorities. This was stated by Beglaryan's lawyer, Hrant Ananyan, in a conversation with NEWS.am.

“Gagik Beglaryan voluntarily presented himself to the Republic of Armenia. He submitted an application in advance and appeared before the investigating agency. He was not detained; claims that he was detained based on operational data are also false,” Ananyan said.

He did not comment on whether a decision regarding an appeal against the potential arrest was being prepared. Regarding NEWS.am's information that a bail request for Beglaryan's release has been submitted to the court, Ananyan neither confirmed nor denied it.

It is worth noting that Beglaryan is accused under Articles 179 (embezzlement or misappropriation) and 308 (abuse of official powers) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. He had been on the wanted list since March 23, 2020.
