A Professional Army Will be Formed: Araik Harutyunyan
The President of the Republic of Artsakh, Araik Harutyunyan, visited the Ministry of Defense on May 18, where he held a meeting with the senior command of the Defense Army. Issues related to army building, the country's defense capability, and improving the social conditions of military personnel were discussed.
The President expressed deep gratitude to all personnel of the Defense Army for their selfless fulfillment of their mission and for defending the homeland against the aggression of the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem to the best of their abilities. He stated, “We advocate for a dignified and stable peace agenda, but for this, security guarantees are also necessary. Therefore, the Defense Army exists, will remain, and will become more combat-ready. As a result of the planned reforms, a professional army will be formed, where contract servicemen will play a significant role.”
He added that maximum efforts will be made for the consistent and rapid improvement of Artsakh's security system. Speaking about the improvement of the social and living conditions of military personnel, President Harutyunyan emphasized that with the active support of the Government of Armenia, the housing problem of active and retired officers will be fully resolved by 2023. Additional efforts will also be made to provide social guarantees for servicemen, as well as to improve the social situation of the families of fallen, deceased, and disabled servicemen.
