Second Batch of AstraZeneca Vaccine Arrives in Armenia

As part of the fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), a second batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine has been imported into Armenia, consisting of 50,000 doses. This was reported by the Information Department of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.

“To support the supply of vaccines in Armenia, UNICEF has utilized its experience as the world’s largest buyer of vaccines, delivering COVID-19 vaccine doses on behalf of the COVAX initiative,” said Yuri Oksamitnin, a UNICEF representative in Armenia. “Additionally, UNICEF is working with the Ministry of Health to ensure the country’s preparedness to receive the vaccines by training health sector professionals and strengthening trust in vaccines.”

The Ministry of Health and UNICEF are also taking joint measures to ensure the availability of a proper cold chain in the country. “As one of the co-leading organizations of the COVAX initiative, one of WHO's priorities is to ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines. Within the framework of the program implemented in cooperation with the European Union, we are ready to support the country in reviewing, developing, and adapting vaccination strategies aimed at primary health care professionals. With our technical support, it is planned to create regional centers as part of training courses for medical staff to initiate educational seminars in support of the National Immunization Program in Armenia,” said WHO representative Yegor Zaitsev.

“Team Europe is ready to ensure that everyone in Armenia in need of a vaccine receives it, no matter where they are in the country. Within the framework of the COVAX initiative, Team Europe is again supporting the Armenian government in vaccination efforts in close partnership with WHO and UNICEF. Vaccines work; vaccines save lives,” noted Andrea Wiktorin, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia.
