Earthquake in Iran: Casualties Reported
At least three people were injured during an earthquake that struck northeastern Iran on the morning of May 17. This was reported by the IRNA news agency, citing Mehdi Valipour, the head of one of the Iran Red Crescent Society's branches.
According to his information, 11 rescue teams have currently been dispatched to the northeastern part of the country to assist those affected by the earthquake. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.3. The epicenter of the tremors was located 50 kilometers southwest of the city of Bojnourd, which has a population of 192,000. The focus of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers, TASS reported.
