Defense Ministry Statement on the Situation in Syunik: Time for Negotiations Revealed

After the provocative actions taken by Azerbaijani forces in certain border areas of the Armenian provinces of Syunik and Gegharkunik, negotiations aimed at resolving the situation that began on May 12 have continued today. The Armenian side has reiterated its clear demand to the representatives of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces to withdraw from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and return to their original positions without any preconditions, in order to avoid further escalation of the situation and unpredictable consequences.

As a result of discussions, it has been agreed to continue negotiations tomorrow, May 16, at 14:00.

Overall, no changes in the situation have been recorded today in all three directions where Azerbaijani military personnel attempted to advance their positions. It should be noted that yesterday, due to the actions of Armenian units, Azerbaijani representatives were forced to withdraw from certain areas.

The Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia stress the importance of a peaceful resolution to the situation and once again declare that any encroachments on the sovereign territories of Armenia are absolutely unacceptable.
