Former Commander of Border Forces Summoned for Questioning
According to the publication “Zhoghovurd,” the Military Investigative Service of Armenia has summoned the former commander of the NSS border forces, Vaghinak Sargsyan, for questioning. Information reached by the newspaper suggests that a criminal case is being investigated at the NSS, within the framework of which Vaghinak Sargsyan has been called in for questioning. However, details regarding the specific criminal case have not yet been clarified by “Zhoghovurd.”
It is notable that Vaghinak Sargsyan was appointed as the commander of the NSS border troops on June 11, 2018. This appointment was not considered random, as on April 23, during the protests against then-Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan in Yerevan, a group of servicemen from the Armenian Armed Forces peacekeeping brigade unexpectedly joined the demonstrations in uniform, with Vaghinak Sargsyan serving as the commander of that brigade at the time. The Armenian Ministry of Defense criticized this move, stating that the military must remain out of politics and political processes.
It should be noted that on October 26, during a meeting with the border forces, there was a heated discussion between him and Acting Director of the NSS, Mikayel Hambardzumyan.
