Covid Units Closed in Shirak Province

Covid units in Shirak Province have been closed, which had been reopened due to the third wave of the coronavirus and rising numbers.

According to Armenpress, under the order of the Minister of Health of Armenia, the Covid units operating in the "Gyumri" medical center and the infectious disease hospitals in Gyumri have been closed again due to the decrease in numbers. Only triage services are currently operational.

“Suspected patients are admitted here, samples are taken, and if the disease is confirmed, the person is referred for inpatient treatment at centers in Yerevan or other provinces. In cases where outpatient treatment is necessary, outpatient treatment is prescribed under the supervision of the primary health care sector,” said Leili Aslanyan, who is performing the duties of the head of the health department of Shirak Province, in an interview with Armenpress.

In recent weeks, there has also been a decrease in the number of patients receiving outpatient treatment; currently, there are 349 patients undergoing outpatient treatment in the province.

Leili Aslanyan is satisfied with the vaccination process as well. The vaccination process in the province started on May 15. There are individuals getting vaccinated, and fortunately, there have been no adverse events post-vaccination. The indicators in Shirak Province are quite good compared to other provinces. There are already 1,435 vaccinated citizens in the province. A total of 670 citizens have been vaccinated with "Sputnik-V" and 765 with "AstraZeneca".

The mobile vaccination unit is also functioning normally. The province has already received the second dose of the "Sputnik-V" vaccine, which is intended for those individuals who have already received the first dose and are due for the second injection 21 days later as scheduled. The Chinese vaccine has not yet arrived in Shirak Province.
