COVID-19's Second Year Could Lead to More Deaths than the First, Says WHO
COVID-19 has already claimed the lives of 3.3 million people. We are now in the second year of the pandemic, which could result in more deaths than the first year. This was announced by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The Director-General stated that the only way to save lives is to combine vaccinations with public health measures, rather than using them separately. The WHO also emphasized that vaccinations alone cannot provide a 100% guarantee against the spread of the virus, as vaccinated individuals can still become infected.
The WHO assures that countries should base their decisions regarding the lifting of restrictions not on the number of vaccinated individuals in their countries but on the level of COVID-19 transmission.
