Court Postpones Provision of Materials in Case of Serzh Sargsyan and Barsgh Beglaryan

The court proceedings in the case involving former President Serzh Sargsyan and Barsgh Beglaryan, owner of the Flash company, were postponed, according to reports. The hearing was held at the Avan residence of the General Jurisdiction Court of Yerevan, presided over by Judge Vahe Misakyan. The court deferred the decision regarding the provision of all materials related to the main criminal case as of December 2020, as well as copies of decisions containing legal assessments regarding other alleged crimes referenced in the testimonies of Sevan Kocharyan.

“The necessity of requesting the documents specified in the motion can be evaluated by the court after examining the evidence in this criminal case and reviewing the written materials, as well as following the questioning of witnesses. In other words, this motion is postponed,” stated the judge.

It should be noted that during the previous hearing, the defense mentioned that Sargsyan's case had been separated from the main criminal case, and that exculpatory evidence had not been included in the separated criminal case. The next court session is scheduled for June 3 at 14:30.

It is also noted that defendants Sergy Karapetyan and Samvel Galstyan have died due to complications from the coronavirus. According to the indictment, from January 25 to February 7, 2013, under the organization of Serzh Sargsyan and the instigation of Barsgh Beglaryan, and with the assistance of Samvel Galstyan and Gevorg Harutyunyan, a substantial amount of 489,160,310 AMD was misappropriated from the governmental reserve fund intended for the implementation of state support programs, specifically relating to 15,391,765 liters of diesel fuel.

Serzh Sargsyan has been charged under Article 38-179, Part 3, Subpart 1 of the RA Criminal Code for particularly large-scale embezzlement or misappropriation.
