Today's Government Decision Is a Fundamental Change in the Science Sector: Tigran Avinyan
Acting Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan wrote on his Facebook page: “Today’s government decision is a fundamental change in the science sector, which significantly revises the base salaries of scientific workers. If the base salary fund for 2021 is estimated to be around 4 billion drams, it will amount to approximately 7.7 billion, 10 billion, 12.4 billion, and 14.4 billion drams for the years 2022-2025, respectively. Notably, there has been no revision of the base salary fund for scientific workers since 2010.
For example, if the average base salary for a senior researcher in 2021 is 138,000 drams, then as a result of the changes, from January 2022, a senior researcher will receive at least 367,000 drams. In the subsequent years, the minimum base salary will continue to increase, reaching 553,000 drams by January 2025.
These figures pertain to base salaries, while effectively working scientists, in addition to their base salaries, can receive additional funds by participating in thematic programs funded by specific projects. This is a clear message that science in Armenia has a future and that the government is committed to improving the living standards and working conditions of scientists.”
