Nikol Pashinyan's Night Meeting and Comments Indicate This Is Not Just a Violation of State Borders: Abrahamyan

Tigran Abrahamyan, head of the analytical center 'Hayanq' and former advisor on security matters to the President of Artsakh, writes:

“During the Security Council meeting, Prime Minister Pashinyan stated that ‘Azerbaijani armed forces have crossed the state border of the Republic of Armenia in that area (Ishkhanasar) and advanced up to 3.5 kilometers, essentially trying to encircle Lake Sevan.’ Given the fact that yesterday the Prime Minister's allies, various structures, and officials were attempting to distort the situation before the Security Council meeting—sometimes using mocking and derogatory labels—it can be assumed that the government hoped until the last moment that the situation would ultimately resolve in Armenia's favor.

According to the Prime Minister, ‘We must note that the situation is at least near-crisis if not crisis-level.’ Even if the situation seems to stabilize externally, with Azerbaijani forces returning to previous positions, it can be assumed that there will be concessions on another front—whether at the border or in political matters. This means that the Prime Minister's night meeting and his comments indicate that this is not merely a case of a violation of state borders; it encompasses deeper issues. Azerbaijan is not only resolving a local issue—establishing advantageous positioning and control over the water resources of Lake Sevan—but also acquiring a new, quite effective tool for pressure in the negotiations with Armenia.”
