«It's a Shame for the Republic of Armenia...». Varuzhan Geghamyan

Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan wrote on his Facebook page: “Here it is, the end. Yesterday, at midnight, when the leader of the de facto pro-Turkish government in Armenia confirmed that Azerbaijan has entered our internationally recognized sovereign territory and advanced 3.5 km, and that Armenia is merely going to negotiate to convince Azerbaijan to withdraw from our territory (which, I assure you, will not happen), the Republic of Armenia ceased to exist as a state and as an independent geopolitical entity. There is a simple formula: if you do not control your borders, then there is no state with such borders.

It is perhaps symbolic that this coincided with our church's Ascension Day. Our state ‘ascended’ at midnight yesterday after ‘being crucified’—after capitulation. I ‘congratulate’ all those who were waiting for this, I ‘thank’ all those who contributed to it, and I mourn for those who, after all this, will still find justification within themselves in some way (by acting or failing to act) to support these damned people.

And if you have decided to fight, then you must clearly acknowledge in your mind that your struggle is not only against the pro-Turkish occupying regime established in the Republic of Armenia but also for the restoration of the Republic of Armenia itself. It’s a shame for the Republic of Armenia...”
