Another U.S. State Recognizes the Armenian Genocide
The governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolf, has issued a statement recognizing the Armenian Genocide. Pennsylvania joins all human rights defenders and historians who have acknowledged the genocide against 1.5 million Armenians carried out during the Ottoman Empire.
The statement notes that failing to learn lessons from history has allowed its repetition, referencing the war that took place in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020. Armed forces from Azerbaijan and Turkey conducted attacks against the Armenian people in Artsakh, leading to loss of lives, territories, and properties. The motivation for these military actions was rooted in the campaign of genocide against Armenians that occurred 106 years ago.
