Adam Schiff Appeals to Biden Administration Regarding Syunik
The Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, has reached out to the Biden administration concerning the incursion of Azerbaijani forces into the Syunik region of Armenia.
“I am deeply concerned about recent reports that Azerbaijani troops have entered Armenian territory. If true, this is yet another dangerous and provocative action that could lead to further loss of life. It is time for the United States to recognize that our policy has emboldened Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to pursue military escalation, risking a new war,” the U.S. Congressman wrote on his Facebook page.
Schiff emphasized that military funding should not be provided to Azerbaijan, which he stated is “often involved in human rights violations and undermining the sovereignty of its neighbors.”
“I have been in communication with the Biden administration and urged them to engage more deeply through the Minsk Group, now more urgently than ever. Reports indicate that Azerbaijan is undertaking these actions just days after the State Department unjustifiably declined to lift the restrictions under Section 907 on direct assistance to Azerbaijan. We should not be providing military funding to a nation that is regularly involved in human rights violations and undermining the sovereignty of its neighbors,” he wrote.
